De-Stress for a Happy 2013!

You can now De-Stress in Rainham starting 22 January. Aimed at people affected by Stress, Worry, Anxiety or Depression, Manage Your Mind – Manage Your Life is a new programme of weekly workshops, which provides an opportunity to learn new skills and develop a more positive perspective on life.

Based on powerful breathing exercises, the workshops provide practical techniquesto enable people to deal with everyday challenges and stressful situations.

Over 90% of people who attended a Pilot workshop in Medway last year felt calmer, more relaxed and peaceful. Over 95% said they would recommend the workshop to others. “I understand how daily breathing exercises will help me .............. I feel I am less anxious and more focussed on improving my health” said a previous workshop participant. “I feel my mind is beginning to get less cluttered and I am less worried
about things.”

The workshops are Free of Charge, provided by the UK Branch of the International Association for Human Values (IAHV) which provides courses for stress reduction in over 50 countries. IAHV makes a life-transforming difference to the lives of people by teaching them how to manage stress, improve behaviour and interpersonal skills and develop a more positive outlook on life. After the success of our pilot programme in Medway, we are now rolling this out for the first time across Medway with the first workshop commencing on January 22nd.

The Manage-Your-Mind workshops focus on:

  • Basic breathing techniques to eliminate stress and tension
  • Guided meditations and processes that calm the mind
  • Knowledge on how simple aspects of your lifestyle affect your health
  • Skills for handling negative emotions and everyday situations
  • Practical points on how to improve work and interpersonal relationships


Driving force behind the workshops is local Medway GP Dr Farnaaz Sharief. After having seen the transformation amongst people who have previously attended this workshop and being fully aware of the increasing prevalence of stress in the community, Dr. Sharief is keen to provide a service that is easily accessible and will benefit the population. She has volunteered with the charity for many years and is keen to mix her knowledge of general practice with her passion for charity work to make a positive lasting difference in the community.
