 Village of Hope

The Trustees of a children’s home and community centre, called the Village of Hope (VOH) in Batticaloa, was formally handed over with care and full custody accorded to Art of Living/Sri Lanka (AOL) , on a long term lease, effective 01 September 2009. The Village comprises residential facilities and play area on a land of 12 acres. Currently over 25 tamil children are housed in the Village. More children will be admitted in the coming 3 months.

Batticaloa

1. AOL took over responsibilities to fully administer the facility on 01 September 2009. The transitional period and adjustment to the AOL philosophy should take a minimum of 6-12 months. The operating plan is being formulated gradually, providing opportunities to understand the existing virtues of child care and AOL’s interest in juxtaposing child care with community spiritual service offerings. Many AOL programs have been offered over the last six months at VOH.

2. The Village has space to accommodate a variety of services. All of those shall be considered in the finalization of a cogent plan of operation of the site. There are facilities for the care and welfare of 100 children. The current ceiling is 40.

3. The current costs of provisional operational experience over the last four months indicate a deficit of USD 2,000 per month. 4. We believe that the net operating funds needed over the next year to maintain optimum services at VOH may amount to USD 42,000

Scope for sponsorships / support

Art of Living Sri Lanka solicits support to meet the net operating funds requirement budgeted at USD 42,000 per annum ( based on current prevailing prices/cost of living)
